First Sunday of Advent, November 28, 2021

Dear friends,

Once again, I thank you for your patient endurance of the current inconveniences during this first phase of our construction project. As we wait together with joyful anticipation for the improvements to take shape, I ask for your continued understanding.

Until the construction is complete, anyone wishing to visit our Lord in the Adoration Chapel will need to enter through the church. Follow the wall on the right side toward the sacristy, go up the steps or ramp, and you will see directions leading to the Adoration Chapel. Please exit in the same manner, and I thank you for your continued commitment to adoration in our chapel.

On 1 December 2021, the Supreme Court will hear the case Thomas E. Dobbs, State Health Officer of the Mississippi Department of Health, et al., Petitioners v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, et al. It is more commonly referred to as “Dobbs v. Jackson” or, simply, “Dobbs” and presents as a very significant moment in the history of our country as an opportunity for the Supreme Court to decide against abortion.

Our parish will be hosting several occasions for Adoration, during which time we will implore our Lord to guide the judges in their hearing of the case and in making a final decision, all through the powerful intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe , Patroness of the Unborn.

With the liturgical celebration of this First Sunday of Advent, our Church begins a new liturgical year, cycle C. Advent is a time to recall the cry of the early Christians: “Maranatha, Come, Lord Jesus!” Let this time of preparation and anticipation enkindle in us a deeper longing for the coming of our Savior.

I’d like to extend a warm welcome Fr. David Guffey, C.S.C., National Director of Family Theater Production based in Hollywood, CA. Fr. Guffey will be presenting our Advent Mission during the next three days, i.e., Monday, 29 November, through Wednesday, 1 December, at 7:00 p.m. each evening in the church. Please spread the word and plan to bring your family and friends as we join together in preparing our hearts to celebrate the Feast of the Incarnation at Christmas.

Mark your calendars for each Tuesday in Advent!

We will be offering the following special programming on those evenings in preparation for the coming of our Infant King:

30 November: Advent Mission at 7 p.m.

7 December: Advent Penance Service at 7 p.m.

14 December: Vespers at 7 p.m.

21 December: Stations of the Crib at 7 p.m. Have a blessed Thanksgiving!

With love, Fr. John
