The Catechumenate is a process for adults and children over the age of seven who are seeking to be baptized into the Roman Catholic Church. These people would prepare to receive the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation. As well, Christians baptized into other denominations can seek to receive the Sacraments of Initiation through this process. Each person is matched with a sponsor from the parish who befriends and journeys with the candidate.
This process can be as unique as each individual involved. The main purpose is to assist prospective Catholics in their journey to become active members of the church community through discussions of the teachings of the Church, prayer, reflection, study of scripture, and participation with the community in various ministry and social activities.
The sessions are held Sundays after Mass. The Rite of Dismissal is also practiced during mass on certain Sundays of the year. More information on this process will be given to you upon your initial inquiry. If this is a process in which you or a loved one would like to participate, either as a candidate or a sponsor, please contact the Director of Lifelong Faith Formation to begin this rewarding and enriching experience.
