Fifth Sunday of Easter, MAy 15, 2022

Dear friends,

Today, we celebrate our children who are graduating from different levels of their educational accomplishments. We want to congratulate them for their hard work and also thank their parents for supporting them along the way. In addition, we’d like to recognize the dedicated efforts of their teachers and the supporting staffs of their varied institutions. For those who have been homeschooled, we thank their parents for committing to this huge undertaking. To honor our graduates, we will celebrate with a special Baccalaureate Mass on Sunday, 15 May, at 4.30 p.m. CONGRATULATIONS to all of you!

I’d like to invite the parents of children who will be entering grades 1 through 5 in the fall to consider registering your children for our Vacation Bible School (VBS), Jerusalem Marketplace, which will be held from 13-17 June, 9:00 a.m. to noon in our parish center. Please drop by the office to register, as we want to make sure it is available to our children before we open it to the community.

A heartfelt thanks to all who remembered their mothers, both living and deceased, at all the Masses this past weekend. The Mother’s Day prayer baskets were filled to overflowing with prayer intentions to honor the women who lovingly chose life so that we might live it abundantly. We will continue to pray for them throughout the month of May, asking our heavenly Mother Mary for her powerful intercession.

On this 5th Sunday of Easter, we are invited to reflect upon one of the quintessential “laws” of Christianity. In John 13:34-35, Jesus tells his disciples, “I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another. This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” This is not always easy to do. However, what makes it feasible is the assurance of God as proclaimed by John in Revelation 21:3 “… Behold, God’s dwelling is with the human race.  He will dwell with them and they will be his people and God himself will always be with them [as their God].” What a privilege to be part of this great family that God has created. Let us always strive to be recognized as his disciples by the example of our love for one another.

Have a blessed week!

With love,

Fr. John
