Family of the Month
St. John the Evangelist and the Knights of Columbus family of the month is Tom & Barbara Kelly.
Tom and Barbara were born and brought up in Hoboken, New Jersey. They began dating at 16 and have been together since. They were married in 1964. The Kellys have two children, Brian in Maitland, Fl and Sharon in Long Beach, CA. They have two grandchildren.
Tom joined the United States Air Force after college, and they spent the next 28 years in various assignments across the United States and overseas. Tom retired in 1991, and they moved to Florida.
They were among the earliest parishioners of St. John the Evangelist, registering in May 2002.
Barbara worked as a volunteer receptionist at the first parish office on Murrell Rd. before the hall was built and when Mass was held in the Government Center. She was a founding member of the Council of Catholic Women and has been an active member since. She has been a member of the Offertory Accounting Ministry team for over 15 years and was the team scheduler until recently.
Tom is an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion at the 11:00 a.m. Mass. He was a committee member for the International Festival as coordinator of beverage services. He was also a volunteer for the Children' s Hunger Project, helping set up packing lines and packing the food.
Both have been active members of the Knights of Columbus and its Ladies Auxiliary. They have held leadership positions in their respective organizations, assisting at charitable functions at St. John’s and throughout the community.
