August Family of the Month

St. John the Evangelist Community is pleased to name the Moores as Family of the Month for August. The Moores are three generational members of St. John’s parish: Ed and Maureen joined the parish in 2006, followed by Ed Jr., Laura, and Madaleine in 2014.

Ed and Maureen met at Cathedral, a Catholic High School, in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1962. They married in 1967 after attending college (Catholic) and moved to Maryland where they pursued their careers, Ed in Federal Service, and Maureen in Health Care Administration. They were privileged to become part of St John’s in 2006, a new and Growing Catholic Community, transitioning from the Government Center to Holy Cross Hall and then to our new and beautiful Church.

The Moores have been involved in numerous events and committees, including CHP packing, one of the first volunteers for the Adoration Chapel, Trunk or Treat, Crosswinds, Bible in a Year, and various events held in the Holy Cross Hall.  They are now involved as committee members for the upcoming parish picnic to be held October 2, 2022.

Currently, Maureen is a Sacristan, Eucharistic Minister and continues to be a member of the Catholic Council off Women(CCW). She has the privilege and honor to be the Corresponding Secretary for 2022-2024. Ed assists the custodial staff on Monday mornings cleaning the church.  Madaleine is an Edge participant and an alter server at the Sunday 7:15 a.m. Mass. Ed Jr. helps as needed with Monday cleaning, various set-ups and take downs. When needed he serves as an usher, passing the donation basket.

When asked, Maureen stated “As the matron of this family, I can  unequivocally say that we truly enjoy being a part of this great Catholic Community and look forward to being more involved as we grow into the future”. As a member of CCW, I only can say this, ‘you don’t know what you are missing; the most loving and caring group of women you will ever meet’.”
