January Family of the Month

St. John the Evangelist Catholic Community and the Knights of Columbus Council #6125 are proud to announce that Gerry Judge is the Family of the Month for January 2025.

Gerry is from Providence, R.I. She met John, the love of her life, at Rhode Island College of Education during her freshman year; they married in 1960 and were blessed with two children, John and Susan. Eventually, the family included five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The family is now spread throughout the U.S. in Massachusetts, Maine, Rhode Island, and California.

Gerry taught kindergarten and first grade in Coventry, R.I. for 20 years before retiring to Florida with John in 1987. They moved to Rockledge in October 2000 and joined St. Mary’s Parish, where they volunteered at St. Mary’s Helping Hands for four years. In 2002, they became parishioners of St. John’s.

Gerry’s beloved John died in 2009 before the birth of their three great-grandchildren. After his death, Gerry’s goal was to find a new life, and she found it in Christ and his Church. She became and still is a daily communicant and member of the morning Mass rosary group. She became closely involved in CRHP for 10 years. She became a member and then officer of CCW, serving as 2nd and 1st vp and president. She is still very active in CCW.

Gerry has been a catechist and a Eucharistic Minister, and she has participated in many bible study groups. In addition, she was frequently a packer of children’s meals for the Children’s Hunger Project at their headquarters. Her great seamstress skills have been put to good use at St. John’s; she made the signs denoting lectors, sacristans, and ushers that hang on the church pews, and she was Father Brad’s tailor, hemming numerous pairs of his slacks.

Gerry now has a unique rock ministry in which she decorates small rocks with spiritual messages. These are kept in a bowl at the reception desk in the Parish Life Center, free for the taking. She says, “I love my God, my family, and my church, and I love using what God has given me to bring joy to others and make the world a better place. It’s my way to evangelize.”

Thank you, Gerry, for your commitment to the faith and to St. John’s. You are a blessing to the parish, and we applaud you for your dedication and service.
