Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity of Brevard County is a ecumenical Christian housing ministry working in partnership with the community of Brevard County to eliminate substandard and inadequate housing by building simple, decent, affordable homes in partnership with God's people in need.

. . . God will not forget your work and the love you have shown Him as you have helped His people and continue to help them.
Hebrews 6:1

Our St John the Evangelist “Faith Build Project” is supporting the “Patricia Barber Family”.  Their Home to-be is 2209 Cedarwood Drive, Melbourne (a 20 minute drive from SJE). Patricia is a single mother, has four children and employed at Holmes Regional Hospital.  She has three sons ages 21 (attending college in St Louis), 16, and 13, and a daughter age 7.  Patricia has always dreamed of her children having a reliable and stable home.  She is a member of Greater Ward Chapel African Methodist Episcopal (AME) and has been an active member for over 10 years.  During tough times, Patricia relies heavily on prayer.  Her belief is “If all you’re going to do is worry, then don’t pray and if you’re going to pray about it, then don’t worry.”  Patricia is tired of the ongoing drug abuse by neighbors, violence and constant increase in public housing rent and has worked hard to get her family into the Habitat for Humanity Program.

The Habitat for Humanity “Faith Build Project” began January 12, 2019, and we are currently at the midway point towards a new home. Our Habitat team would like to thank all the volunteers for your time, talents, and fellowship in bringing the Patricia Barber home closer to becoming a reality.

However, we are still in need of volunteers! We have much work to do as we enter the painting phases (both inside and outside), tiling of floors, cabinetry work and placement, trim work, sod laying, etc.

Lunch volunteers: We have one remaining lunch delivery on May 18th. Judy Permanente is our lead for lunches. With our Faith Build running through June 2019, we may be asked to supply additional lunch support. Judy will provide volunteer coordination as required. Volunteers meet in the St. John’s kitchen, make lunches, and deliver them to the work site on Cedarwood Drive. Delivery time: 11:30.

Construction volunteers: Our work days continue to be Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays and normally last half a day, depending on the tasks at hand. We are hopeful that many will continue to step up and volunteer. In fact, we’ve had entire families (kids aged high school and up) spend a work day with us! Habitat provides all tools, equipment, and safety briefs necessary to accomplish each day’s tasks. Interested parishioners, please contact Tom Tellson, our lead for scheduling.
