January Family of the Month

St. John the Evangelist Catholic Community and the Knights of Columbus Council #6125 are proud to announce that Jesse and Laverne Michalk are the Family of the Month for January 2024.

Originally from Texas, Jesse and Laverne have been faithful members of St. John’s since moving here in 2005. Laverne has been active in parish life from the beginning and is still a member of the CCW. She served as an EMHC and 4:30 p.m. Sunday Mass greeter, participated in CRHP, and along with Jesse, volunteered over the years with a number of ministries serving both our parish and the community. Jesse was part of the SJE team that assisted with the first Habitat for Humanity home build in 2011. He assisted several Children’s Hunger Project food packing events at St. John’s, was a member of the SJE Accounting team, and served many years as an usherand greeter for the 4:30 p.m. Sunday Mass.

Married 65 years ago in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Frelsburg, Texas, Jesse and Laverne spent their first 20 years together in the United States Air Force, enjoying assignments with their three children in Germany, Texas, New Mexico, and California. They have two grandsons, one granddaughter, and one great-grandson. Perseverance in faith and a lifelong commitment to active charity continue todefine the Michalkfamily.

Now, more than ever, Jesse and Laverne very much appreciate the genuine care and concern, love and support shared by young and old alike in this warm and welcoming community of faith, within which all of us are inspired by the example of our pastor, Fr. John.

Thank you, Jesse and Laverne, for your example of service. You are a blessing to this parish. We applaud you for your dedication to thecommunityof St. John the Evangelist.
