Deacon Mongan has been married Ellen Manfredi May 1, 1974 and they have 7 living children & one child, Zachary in heaven (He dies shortly after birth from Trisomy 18.) & 13 grand children. He is a retired family medicine physician who was a faculty member of the Medical College of Georgia. He was ordained a deacon in the Savannah diocese 5/31/2008 and earned a Master of Arts in Pastoral Studies from St. Leo U. Service in the Church has included visitation to the sick, marriage preparation (with Ellen), adult education, RCIA presentations, 1 day retreats, frequent presentations on the moral care of patients at the end of life, and currently teaches a course, “Pastoral Care of the Sick, Dying and Grieving,” to diaconal candidates in the Charleston diocese in addition to contributing to Women of Grace.
