Twenty-Ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time, October 16, 2022

Hello everyone!

This weekend is a very full weekend. By the time that you are hopefully reading this we would have had a Rosary rally and Oktoberfest.

In addition to those events we also have a number of collections. Again, this entire month the Ladies Axillary are collecting baby items. This weekend is the food drive for the Farmworkers of Fellsmere. We heard about the diocesan efforts for our sister diocese of San Juan de la Maguana in the Dominican Republic. Next week we will have a collection for disaster relief for those affected by Hurricane Ian. The money collected will assist Catholic Charities and Catholic Relief Services as they work to assist in the immediate needs and the long-terms needs of those affected by the hurricane. That weekend is also World Mission Sunday. Finally, the last weekend of the month we will have someone speak to us as well for the Mission Co-op. These are a lot of opportunities to be generous during this month so please take the opportunity to discern how you and your family can be generous and charitable.

I just want to speak a little bit more about our efforts for San Juan de la Maguana. First, if you want to rewatch the video we saw at Mass please CLICK HERE: https://www.cfocf.org/missionoffice/

One of the important charisms of the Congregation of Holy Cross is education. Any way that we can support education definitely falls into our mission.  In this parish our support has to be a little more indirect because education is not one of the primary ministries in this parish. Therefore, when an opportunity comes to support education, I hope that everyone is inspired by the Holy Cross charism that animates this parish. We saw in the video the results of the diocesan fundraising efforts especially within the schools that the collection supports. Let’s continue that good work!

In addition, if you have more questions please about the diocesan efforts in San Juan de la Maguana, please contact Janice and Gregg Cheshire at cheshiresfl@gmail.com.

Some Reminders:

  • Fr. John Patrick Riley C.S.C. is at his new assignment in Phoenix.  His mailing address is 7126 N 7th Ave, Phoenix AZ, 85021.
  • As Fr. John Britto is returning from his pilgrimage, I will be away on retreat this week. Of course, I will keep everyone at St. John’s in my prayers as I ask you to pray for me as well. (I should be back for the weekend.)

In Holy Cross,

Fr. Vincent
